Drying matters here because a wood fuel is only worth what its moisture allows: green chip leaving the forest at 50–60% moisture holds a poor, wet-heavy calorific value, while chip dried to 20% or below burns cleanly and hot. German solid biofuels are graded and traded against the EN ISO 17225 wood-chip specification, so a documented moisture class is what lets the fuel command its price. Regulatory context
The Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz (KrWG, Circular Economy Act) is Germany's framework waste statute and transposes the EU Waste Framework Directive into national law. Its section 6 fixes a five-step waste hierarchy — prevention, preparation for re-use, recycling, other recovery including energy recovery, and only then disposal — so an operation that dries wet residue into a fuel or a soil product counts as recovery and ranks above burial in the legal order rather than heading for a landfill.

What moisture should wood chip reach?
For clean, efficient combustion, chip is dried to 20% moisture or below, and to around 15% for the premium fuel grades. FlowDrya is set to the moisture class the fuel contract or EN ISO 17225 specification calls for.
How does drying raise the value of wood chip?
Water carries no energy, so a wet chip sells low and burns poorly. Removing moisture concentrates the calorific value, prevents storage losses from composting and self-heating, and moves the chip into a higher, documented fuel grade a buyer will pay for.
Does the dryer produce excessive fines?
No. The FlowDrya moving floor conveys and tumbles chip gently rather than hammering it, so the material dries evenly across the deck without being broken down into low-value dust.
Can it handle mixed or variable chip?
