FlowDrya wood-chip dryers are built to order at STRONGA's Hertfordshire works and supplied to sawmills, biomass and district-heating operators here, and we say plainly that no wood-chip line is yet commissioned on home soil. Freshly comminuted chip leaves the forest wet and unstable; a boiler or a pellet press wants it dry and graded. Conditioning the chip to a low, even moisture raises its net calorific value, steadies combustion and lets it be classified against EN ISO 17225-4 with moisture reported to EN ISO 18134. Regulatory context
The Abfallwirtschaftsgesetz 2002 (AWG 2002) is Austria's framework waste statute and transposes the EU Waste Framework Directive into national law. It fixes a five-step waste hierarchy — prevention, preparation for re-use, recycling, other recovery including energy recovery, and disposal only as a last resort — so an operation that dries a wet residue into a fuel or a soil product counts as recovery and ranks above burial in the legal order.

Austria was an early mover against landfill. Under the Deponieverordnung, waste exceeding a strict five per cent total-organic-carbon limit — untreated municipal waste and the combustible residual fraction within it — may not be landfilled; the ban was phased in from 2004 and consolidated in the Deponieverordnung 2008. Cheap burial of wet, biodegradable residue is therefore closed off, which pushes such material toward pre-treatment, drying and recovery rather than a hole in the ground.

Compost and solid digestion products made from waste can shed their waste status and be marketed as quality compost once they satisfy the Kompostverordnung (BGBl. II No. 292/2001), which fixes the permitted raw materials, quality classes, labelling and contaminant limits a product must hold. A dried, stabilised feedstock holds those quality bands far more easily than a wet, actively degrading one, and is far cheaper to store and transport.
