Landfill Tax on the disposal of most active waste in England and Northern Ireland is £130.75 per tonne from 1 April 2026 (the lower rate for inert waste is £8.65 per tonne); Scotland and Wales apply aligned devolved rates. Drying lifts calorific value so each tonne substitutes more fossil fuel in a kiln, and because British industrial electricity averaged 17.08 pence per kWh against gas at 3.71 pence, a dryer that runs on recovered kiln heat and very little electrical power protects the margin.
